This technique can be extremely effective for more surface skin problems. It is not the best choice for deep pitting from severe acne, however. It seems like every dermatologist has some type of peel these days, using everything from mild to severe fruit acids to chemical compounds like TCA (trichloroacetic acid) and others. Peels differ so dramatically in their ingredients and in their effects that it's important to talk to your doctor about what she or he is using, and why. Your best bet is to try the peel on a tiny area of skin to see what kind of effect it has on you— everyone's different. That way, if the effect is harmful in any way, the damage will be minimal. There are both superficial and deep peels. Superficial peels can help eliminate brown spots and other minor discolorations of the skin.
