"ARTIFICIAL" TANNING - RETIN-A (DESCRIPTION)
Alternately touted as a miracle antiaging cream and slammed as a potential carcinogen, Retin-A cream has received more press, both glowing and negative, than most any other skin product. In fact, it has been around for many years and is considered quite safe; if anything, it may reverse early, precancerous skin changes, rather than causing them. A miracle cream, however, it's not. If you're using the cream to try to take decades off of your skin, forget it.
Retin-A, or retinoic acid, smooths the skin and helps reduce the very fine skin wrinkling and discoloration associated with sun exposure and aging. Early results can often be seen after just a few weeks. Retin-A certainly does not eliminate deep wrinkles, or create a chemical face-lift. But it does make a difference, for some patients, in the overall quality of the skin, both color and texture, over time by plumping up skin cells that have become flattened with damage.
