Overscrubbing. People with blemishes often are the worst culprits of overscrubbing their faces, as they're trying to "clean away" the problem. In fact, rubbing aggravates the problem. Gentle cleaning and drying is the best approach. Remember, we're talking about your face, not a table surface!
Overwashing hands. Dr. Diane Bihova of the NYU Medical Center finds that women wash their hands too frequently and remove the protective lipid layer from the surface of the skin, making the skin on the hands more vulnerable to damage. Wash when you're dirty!
Using too many products or too much of a single product. Remember, cosmetics and other skincare products are often made up of dozens of chemicals. When you put several on your face at once, you're conducting a chemical experiment! Sometimes the chemicals interact in ways that are harmful to the skin. Keep it simple and you'll be better off.
