If your skin is very dry, or if you live in an area with little pollution, one wash a day is sufficient-perhaps at night to wash away dirt and/or makeup. If your skin is oily, or if you live in a filthy city, two or even three washes a day may be preferable, as long as you're washing gently and not using too harsh a cleanser. Be your own judge-if your skin feels dry, your cleanser is too harsh. A cleanser with a pH between 5 and 7 is good. Some of the cleansers dermatologists recommended are: Neutragena, Cetaphil, Unscented Dove, Basis and Purpose. Don't rub your skin to dry it. Pat it gently with tissue or a soft clean towel.
