How many times have you left the doctor's office, made it halfway down the hall and remembered something really important you had intended to discuss? Partly because patients are interrupted so early and so often, we get sidetracked and often don't get to discuss at least one issue of importance to us. If you write down the top three issues you want to discuss, this is less likely to happen. Then, if you start to discuss a topic and your doctor interrupts you, you can either say "let me first get through two other things I wanted to mention," or you can let the conversation take a left turn—but look at your list before leaving the doctor's office to remind yourself of the topic that got left behind. To some extent, the doctor-patient relationship should resemble the teacher-student relationship.
