PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF PMS - WHERE TO FIND HELP (PART 2)
Recently, several top PMS experts from around the country, including Jean Endicott, got together and reviewed much of the scientific literature on PMS treatment. They divided the different forms of treatment into five main categories, which I think is very useful for consumers, so I'm doing the same. Of course there is some overlap, but the five major types of treatment we'll look at are: lifestyle changes including diet and exercise, stress reduction through both traditional and alternative therapies, family therapy, non-prescription remedies like vitamins and minerals and medications.
Before we look at the many different treatments for PMS, keep a couple of things in mind.
First, many treatments for PMS are targeted at specific symptoms. So be sure that your health care provider has a good reason for suggesting a particular remedy, and that it matches your complaints. No use taking a great medication for breast swelling if your only problem is abdominal cramps. Many doctors won't bother to tell you what your particular drug does, so speak up and ask.
