Depending on the underlying cause of the amenorrhea, treatment can take many different forms—anything from weight gain to hormonal treatments to limiting athletic training. Other more serious hormonal or structural problems in the reproductive system can also prevent menstruation. The best person to diagnose the cause of amenorrhea is a reproductive endocrinologist, who can run a number of sophisticated hormone and other tests to look for a cause.
