Obviously, if the infection isn't caused by yeast, the medicine will be useless, and your real problem will persist. If you have been diagnosed with chronic yeast infections and know the signs well—and you have recently been screened by your doctor for other vaginal infections and found clear—it's probably okay to act on your own. In some cases, though, there may be an underlying problem in addition to yeast that was masked by the yeast cream—or perhaps was exacerbated by some yeast in the vagina—so you've only temporarily solved your problem.
