EMERGENCY POSTCOITAL METHODS OF BIRTH CONTROL A number of hormonal methods of birth control, including oral contraceptives, progestin-only "minipills" and the still-unapproved RU-486 (the so-called "abortion pill"), among others, can sometimes be used after accidental unprotected intercourse (or rape) to prevent pregnancy.
