Stay absolutely still during the test. It only lasts several seconds per image (they'll take several views of your breast).
Don't fight the technician as she attempts to position your breast properly. Even if you feel a bit uncomfortable, trust that it's necessary to get the best image.
Avoid deodorants and powders on the day of the test—they can obscure the X-ray image.
Make sure the person reading the mammogram has all the necessary information about you—for instance, if you are postmenopausal but taking estrogen replacement therapy, your breasts might be more dense than those of the average woman your age. If the reader knows this, she can make the right assumptions and take the right precautions when scanning your picture for abnormalities.
